While these workshops were previously canceled to keep everyone safe in light of COVID, they are back up and running every Saturday from March until June from 9AM – 11AM at four different locations:
- GAFFEY NATURE CENTER – 720 W. Summerland Place
1st Saturday of each month from 9-11am
- GRIFFITH PARK COMPOSTING FACILITY – 5400 Griffith Park Drive

The first half of the workshop will cover how you can turn your kitchen scraps and yard trimmings into nutrient-rich soil amendment for a happy garden. This portion of the workshop will be led by a team of ten rotating LA Sanitation & Environment green waste specialists. The second half of the workshop will focus on monthly gardening topics taught by Scott Henley and Steve List:
- March: spring vegetables
- April: soils, compost, and worms
- May: roses and trees
- June: cactus and succulents
In addition to instruction, there will be compost bins, worm bins, and compost aeration tools available for purchase at a discounted rate and free mulch and compost for all LA residents!
