In the aftermath of the Palisades Fire, LA Sanitation & Environment crews and Watershed Protection Program staff were on the ground, cleaning up debris from streets and catch basins, cleaning out canyon debris basins, installing temporary measures (e.g. straw wattles) in front of catch basins to reduce the impact of ash runoff in anticipation of winter storms immediately following the Palisades Fire.

During and after the recent storms, LASAN watershed protection staff were in the field collecting water samples from channels to assess the severity of ash from the burn scar runoff. LASAN Vactor Truck crews crisscrossed the burn area to clean out clogged catch basins and reduce flooding.

Moving forward, LASAN crews will continue to maintain and clean catch basins and debris basins to help reduce ash and debris flowing into our local storm drains and monitor the health of our local waterways by collecting regular samples of storm drain runoff.
